Grand Canyon Part 1: The South Kaibab Trail

This was the first hike I've ever done that was nearly all down hill (4,780 feet), almost all 7.4 miles, followed by a day in which it was almost all up hill. 3.5 hours down at a leisurely pace. We lucked out with the weather which was mostly sunny and warm (60+ on the canyon floor).  The Kaibab is steeper than the Bright Angel, and there is no water available, so most hikers choose it for their descent. Water didn't prove to be an issue as I used only a fraction of the two liters I packed. Part 2 (Phantom Ranch)

Dork in a dorky hat. But I must admit, these Tilley hats really are the best for those of us who should never be in the sun.

Must be an old man thing.

Finally caught our first glimpse of the green Colorado several hundred? feet below.

The Black Bridge was built in 1928. As motorized vehicles could not access the construction site, humans and mules transported the 122 tons in materials down the nine miles of trail. Walking single file, 42 Havasupai tribesmen carried the one-ton, 550-foot suspension cables. [Wikipedia]
